Are my passwords uploaded to the internet?
No. Vault256 stores your encrypted vault in a file on your computer. There's no sync and no server holding your data.
What if I forget my master password?
When you create your vault you get a recovery code and backup codes. Any of them lets you back in. Keep them somewhere safe: since there are no backdoors, nobody else can open your vault for you.
What happens when my free year ends?
You can activate Pro or stay on the free plan. Either way you never lose access to what you've saved: you can always view, copy and edit it.
How secure is AES-256 encryption?
It's the standard the U.S. government approved for TOP SECRET classified information. Trying every combination of a 256-bit key isn't feasible with today's technology, so what really matters is choosing a good master password.
How do I know the installer is genuine?
Only download it from vault256.com and compare its SHA-256 fingerprint with the one published on the download page.
